A favorite from Gradma's Sunday dinners. I loved when Grandpa would smother the fresh baked bread with butter and jam.
2 cups lukewarm water
2 tbs white sugar
2 tsp salt
3 cups white flour
1 yeast packet
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tbs shortening
4 cups whole wheat flour
Beat together lukewarm water, yeast, sugar, salt, and white flour until smooth. Set in warm place and let rise till bubbly. Combine hot water, brown sugar, and shortening. Cool till lukewarm. Add mixtures together. Mix in whole wheat flour until smooth. Knead and let rise until double. Knead Place in 2 greased loaf pans. Let rise. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
This recipes takes a while to make but is well work the wait. Enjoy!

A great little shortcut is that you don't have to let it rise twice. Once you make the dough put it straight into bread pans and let rise then just bake. PS you can do this with all whole wheat breads. Its good to see you on blog world I need to update ours but I enjoy reading the stories.
Thanks Cat, Mom backs you up on that too. She tried your bread and said it was delicious. I look forward to checking up on your blog too. I love all the kids pictures. They are so big!!!
